Behind the blog

I'm Bertie Moores, aged 18, from Bolton and currently an Economics and History student at Durham University. Since the age of 5 I've been a season ticket holder at Bolton Wanderers who in recent years have unceremoniously descended from the heights of European football to the prospect of Northampton away directed by a regime under whose stewardship the club was nearly liquidated by the courts.

It is likely that this demise has heightened my interest in what happens off the field of play and how very little of our intake of the game today is solely dedicated to those 90 minutes on a Saturday afternoon. The structures in football, how the game operates, how people take it in and how it affects their lives shapes much of the sport that we recognise in the 21st century.

As a result, any articles written will rarely be about specific matches, tactics and week by week results and fixtures but look the other 9 tenths, at what happens around our national game, how it should be run, how it dominates our lives, what football means to the fans and why.

I may also write about sport in general or cricket, rugby or whatever springs to my mind at that point in time.

If you have any suggestions about anything which you think I should cover or if wish me to publish any articles of your own then please get in touch at 9tenthsofthegame@gmail.com

"It's impossible to keep track of all the football, but your best chance is here."

"The proof is in the pudding and the pudding in this case is a football." Alan Partridge, 1994
